Per Fred Katz of The Athletic, the New York Knicks plan to waive 2022 draft pick Trevor Keels, their lone rookie choice of the last two seasons. The move is said to be made to make room for newly-inked Dylan Windler, who came by on a two-year deal on Monday.

Katz notes that a return to the Knicks organization is still possible, as the team still holds his G League rights.

Keels arrived in New York as the 42nd overall pick of the 2022 draft, an event saw that the Knicks gain and deal assets in the name of saving money and stockpiling picks for big budget arrivals, the first of which was Jalen Brunson on a four-year, $104 million deal. The 19-year-old Duke alum is one of only six teenagers to suit up for the Knicks, appearing in three NBA games last season.

Most of his Knicks tenure was spent with the Summer League group in Las Vegas and the G League team in Westchester. The most recent Vegas session saw him average 10.8 points and shoot just over 41 percent from the field in five games.

Despite his relative inactivity in his rookie year, Keels was set to return to the Knicks on a two-way deal before Windler's entry but the team's two-way allotment is fulfilled for the time being with Nathan Knight and Jaylen Martin joining the 26th overall pick of the 2019 draft.
